Portos
Porto comes exclusively from Portugal’s Douro Valley, the first delimited viticultural appellation in the world, defined by a strict, physical boundary.
The word “Porto” should not be mistaken with the word “Port”, which is a product that can come from anywhere in the world.
Porto is a fortified wine, meaning that the fermentation is stopped by adding a distilled grape spirit, called aguardente, similar to brandy. This preserves some of the natural sweetness that makes Porto, Porto.
