Biosphere Sustainable certified since July 2023!

The Biosphere certification system was developed by sustainability academics, professors and experts in 1997. It is promoted by the Responsible Tourism Institute (ITR), a non-profit NGO created in 1995 and founding member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

Biosphere Sustainable is the longest-standing certification of its kind and, since 2017, has been established as the leading global sustainability certification system. Its aim? To link companies and destinations to the United Nations 2030 Agenda and 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and “to make it easier for individuals to make more responsible consumption decisions” - that’s what we’re all about at Quinta do Tedo!

With over 25 years of activity and over 1,700 Biosphere Committed or Certified destinations and companies worldwide, we are proud to join Biosphere’s global community in the continuous pursuit of improving local well-being, economy, employment and education and ecosystems through rigorous and transparent reporting.

Sustainability is not a just green buzzword for us - it requires coordinated interdisciplinary action. This accomplishment reinforces our bonafide commitment towards higher sustainability standards in all departments at Quinta do Tedo - viticulture, winemaking, wine tourism, Bed & Breakfast and Bistro - for Douro Valley and for our business, team and customers.
